Jay

Some Area Info:  Jay Vermont is a small town that shares its northern border with Canada.   The town is approximately 34 sq. miles, chartered in 1792 and the town government was established on March 28th, 1828.  Jay has a population of approximately 550 property owners and about 150 year round residents.  On any given weekend the area could see upwards of 10,000 visitors enjoying all that the area has to offer, from skiing, golfing, hiking, mountain biking, snowmobiling and snowshoeing in the winter months.  The village of Jay is a quick 3 miles from the base of the mountain and offers the Jay Country Store, the Snow Job ski shop, Jay Automotive repair, the Jay Village Inn and Restaurant, the Town of Jay offices and Jim Campbell Real Estate.  The town also shares an elementary school with the town of Westfield. With the close proximity to Canada it is only about a 90 mile drive to Montreal and less than 4 hours from Boston.

Attractions and Recreation:  Jay Vermont is home to Jay Peak Resort, which over the past few years has gone from a tiny Vermont ski resort to a major Vermont 4 season destination resort with the addition of an indoor waterpark, ice skating/hockey rink, a championship golf course and 3 new hotels.  Known for the most snow in the east, Jay Peak has always been a popular destination for outdoor winter enthusiast.  Other activities in addition to those at the Jay Peak Resort include snowmobiling, cross country skiing along the Catamount Trail (which runs from northern Vermont to southern Vermont), hiking on the Long Trail or many other trails in the area, mountain biking in the summer months and snowshoeing in the winter months on the new Jay Community Recreation Trails.  Although there are no lakes in Jay there are several close by (see our section on lakes in the area).  For 13 consecutive years the town has hosted the August West Festival on the town green as well as several other music festivals at the new outdoor amphitheater at Jay Peak Resort.

Enjoy some of the best the Northeast Kingdom has to offer:  Camping, fishing, hunting, boating, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, horseback riding, hiking, biking, shopping, walking, golfing, snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing or just plan relaxing and enjoying the four seasons.
